Off to Italy - Farewell Berlin

6/28/2013

As I get ready to depart Berlin for Venice, I was thinking about the three words that I chose to describe Berlin prior to the trip. I chose gray, Nazi, and wall.

While I nailed gray due to the weather, and certainly the city has been greatly impacted by both war and its aftermath, I found Berlin to be a city which is looking forward, especially with the tremendous construction in the areas once desolate due to the Berlin Wall. While still remembering its past, Berlin does so with a focus on not repeating past mistakes.

Therefore, my new three words are:

Gray, dynamic, and relaxed. It really is a remarkable city full of history, but not limited by it. I anticipate the next time I visit Berlin, it will be a dramatically different city.

What do you think? Based on what you've seen from the videos, what three words would you use NOW to describe your impression of Berlin?

Jeff, I would have had much the same list of adjectives for Berlin. Germany has never been in my go-to lists of vacation spots but your description brings it up in my list. Thanks for sharing... Wish I could be there!
